Homo intelligendo fit omnia
The other day I met my mom at a café to play backgammon. I drank a coffee and she thought about ordering a hamburger but then asked for a grape soda. I rarely see her drink soda or anything grape-flavored and thought her order was bizarre. She did too, but it made her happy.
Abrupt dodges from routine are something she does often, and it is a maneuver worth considering. The opportunity to surprise oneself is something constant that we rarely take advantage of. Rarely except for my mom, who switches cities, occupations, residences, hair styles and companions unexpectedly and in startling ways.
Interestingly, the results are always good. She’d say the trick is to act with conviction.
